If you’ve spent any time on Chapel Street after dark, chances are you’ve got a Lucky Coq story.
Maybe it started with a casual drink. Maybe it ended on the dancefloor at an hour you’d rather not discuss. Either way, that famous corner of Chapel and High Streets has seen some things.
Now, after almost 20 years of late nights, questionable dance moves and plenty of Melbourne memories, Lucky Coq is becoming Lucky’s.
And no, it’s not just a name change.
Same iconic corner. A whole new night out.
Slated to open in late spring 2026, Lucky’s is getting a major transformation courtesy of Morris Hospitality, with plans to turn the Windsor landmark into a restaurant, bar and music venue all rolled into one.
The idea? Dinner first. DJs later.
Think bold, shareable food, a proper drinks offering and music that takes things up a notch as the night rolls on.
You might book a table for six, move to the bar for another round and suddenly realise it’s midnight and nobody’s particularly keen to leave.
We’ve all been there.
Not your old Lucky Coq
For almost two decades, Lucky Coq has been a Chapel Street rite of passage.
The packed dancefloors. The late-night drinks. The kind of nights that somehow became stories you’re still telling years later.
But Lucky’s isn’t trying to recreate the past.
Instead, Morris Hospitality is rethinking what a night out on Chapel Street can look like, creating somewhere that works just as well for dinner with friends as it does for a spontaneous late one.
Morris Hospitality Head of Marketing and Sales Grace Dorman says the team wanted to acknowledge the venue’s history while giving people something new to get excited about.
“Melburnians know this corner and so many people have their own Lucky Coq story. It has been part of Chapel Street nightlife for almost 20 years, so we wanted to acknowledge that history without simply recreating it,” Dorman said.
“Lucky’s is about giving people more reasons to come in, and more reasons to stay.”
And with a venue that’s set to shift gears throughout the evening, we’re guessing there’ll be plenty of reasons to do exactly that.
So, what’s on the nenu?
That’s still under wraps.
The team is keeping the finer details of Lucky’s food, drinks and music programming close to their chest for now, with more announcements expected in the coming weeks.
What we do know is that the new venue will bring together a restaurant, bar and curated DJ programming, all under one roof.
A dinner booking that turns into a big night out without changing venues? Very Chapel Street.
Get lucky before everyone else
