Ladies, this one’s for you. An ode to high heels of leather, pleather and suede. Thin straps, pointy toes and stilettos. The pair that fit just right, and the pair that are just ever so slightly too small, or too big. Expensive and expensive looking. The lot.

We all agree that heels complete an outfit. They make us look taller, leaner and like we’ve got our s**t together. Like we’re proper grown ups, who can gracefully glide across pavements, or grass, or even uneven stoned surfaces. While high heels LOOK great – the practicalities are something else. We’re talking throbbing toes, blisters (oh, the blisters!) and a continuous numb feeling you get at the balls of your feet. Whether it’s an hour at a bar, or a whole day at the track – heels, while looking amazing, make our feet absolutely ACHE.

We’re here to let you know that you’re not alone, and to give you a few tips for looking after your feet during the Spring Racing Carnival. Because we know that our sweet tootsies are going to be put under some real pressure as we hop (sometimes literally) from breakfast, to raceway, to bar – before gloriously kicking those babies off as soon as you walk through your front door.

Step 1. Prep

This step is especially important if you’re going open toes this Spring. Get a pedicure! All Star Nails & Greville Nails will get your toes looking tip top.

Step 2. Prime

Make sure you’re not wearing your heels for the first time (rookie mistake) and shove some gel inserts onto the sole for extra cushioning.  Oh, and get a sneaky pair of flats for your hand bag! These slides from Betts are perfect. They’re cute, practical and easy to carry.

Step 3. Repair

Book in for a nice foot soak and massage the next day. You totally deserve it! Max Therapy, Norbu and Therapy Zone will have your feet feeling like a million dollars.

Norbu – The Olsen, 637 Chapel St, South Yarra
