SPENCER TUNICK REVEALS INCREDIBLE FINAL CHAPEL PRECINCT
INSTALLATION IMAGES
PLUS IN A WORLD FIRST FOR TUNICK:
VIRTUAL REALITY LETS MELBURNIANS IMMERSE THEMSELVES IN ARTWORK

The day has finally come – Spencer Tunick has chosen his final Chapel Street Precinct installation images, and all 860 Melburnians who participated in the ‘Return of the Nude’ installations have been invited to a special launch event to collect their print. See the incredible final installation images below.

Spencer Tunick has produced more than 120 nude group installations in more than 30 countries. Participants of ‘Return of the Nude’ featured a diverse cross-section of people from various ethnic backgrounds, age groups, and orientations.

As the headline artist of Chapel Street’s PROVOCARÉ Festival of the Arts 2018, Spencer Tunick’s ‘Return of the Nude’ stunned the world after receiving global attention and became the most talked about Australian festival of 2018. Organisers estimated more than 45 million people around the world were exposed to the Chapel Street installation.

“My work has long brought out the common themes of community, individual identity, and the challenges of making the arts an inclusive experience rather than an exclusive experience. Working within the Chapel Street Precinct provides an amazing opportunity to let the citizens of Melbourne become the artist themselves. I believe these final images have captured an extraordinary moment in the timeline of Melbourne.” – Spencer Tunick

Chapel Street General Manager Chrissie Maus says there is also another special Christmas present for those that weren’t able to participate. “The Chapel Street team, in consultation with Tunick, have also just released our location triggered Virtual Reality. This means anyone can visit the site where the Artists Lane Windsor installation was photographed, and with the help of the Chapel Street App, immerse themselves in the world of Tunick. If you’ve ever wondered what it would feel like to be surrounded by 550 nude people covered in paint, this is your chance… and you don’t even have to take your clothes off!

By entering the area of Spencer’s installation site in Chapel Precinct you will be able to see, on the screen of your phone or ipad, the making of the installation virtually surrounded by the hundreds of nude participants.

Using 360 cameras we were able to capture the moments of the amazing artwork that Spencer Tunick was creating in Chapel Precinct. The Chapel Street app is giving visitors to Artists Lane Windsor the opportunity to relive these moments and interact with creative spaces in our iconic precinct. Our app had augmented reality technology for interacting with murals around Chapel Street, and now we are excited that with this experience, we’ve combined GPS location activation and Virtual Reality to create an immersive experience and a first for the technology in Australia in the one app.”

Make sure you download the Chapel Street App from either the Apple or Google app stores, get yourself down to Artists Lane in Windsor, and enjoy the unique experience!

Thousands of people applied to be a part of the installation photograph, which took place over two days during July, making it one of the most highly anticipated art events of the year in the most iconic location in Australia, @chapelprecinct.
