The pizza competition on Chapel is getting to be pretty savage. With not one, not two but three pizza joints joining the crew in the vibrant corridor that is Chapel Street. All we can say is, good luck picking a favourite.

Joining Italy’s greatest export is culinary goodness from Greece and Japan, Australian cuisine also getting a nod with a sleek new rooftop bar emerging in South Yarra.

Here’s what’s new to the Chapel Precinct!
Kalamaki-Windsor

Juicy Souvas, loaded feta fries, Greek beer and a cute yellow door. This Windsor newcomer is putting Kalamaki style souvas front and centre. What’s Kalamaki you ask? It means ‘small reed’ in Greek and it’s where the meat is marinated, cubed and cooked on a skewer. After which it’s put into a pita wrap, you choose your delicious fillings and chuck it straight into your gob. Kalamaki is both a decent date night spot & perfect for a late night bite!

chacho's-windsor

Hand-stretched pizza, classy cocktails and a back bar stacked with rare sipping tequila – Chacho’s, where have you been all my life?! This cosy little pizza and tequila bar has just started slinging its pizzas smack bang in the middle of Windsor. Pizzas range from traditional numbers like the Pablo Pepperoni and Major Margherita. For the more adventurous there’s a Chicken Parmi pizza and Mexican twisted pizzas like the Holy Mole with Mexican Mole paste & pulled pork. A cheeky cocktail to wash it all down? Try the Negave, using smokey Mezcal to put a Mexican twist on the classic Negroni. Chacho’s happy hour is from 5 to 7pm and looks like $10 Margarita cocktails and $10 Margherita pizzas. Heck yeah.

Osborne-rooftop-south-yarra

A fresh new rooftop bar and restaurant has popped up in South Yarra, just in time for some more agreeable weather! Good views, good vibes, good bevs. What more can you ask for? The rooftop is what we’re most excited about. Impressive skyline views, casual seating and an expansive blue bar that’s calling your name. A menu flaunting a modern Australian fare, forget fussy or fancy, this newbie is serving up all your pub faves with a touch of bloody delicious. The Osborne’s arrival is much welcomed in the precinct, and honestly, we’re just pumped to have a new rooftop drinking spot in the heart of South Yarra!

ganbare-kaz-windsor

Choo choo! There’s a new sushi train in town! Not sure what to expect? Ganbara Kaz is all about fresh sushi, good prices and an interior boasting that distinctive Japanese flare. Sip on a Kirin, wonder at the chef’s mad knife skills in a casual atmosphere that fits right into Windsor’s easy going scene. Touch pad ordering and a fit out that’s oh so sleek. Think exposed brick, Japanese calligraphy and a lengthy bar curving around the sushi train. This place tops our must visit list for Spring – so get the squad together, grab a plate and let your stomach lead the way.

Stoned-Pizza-Windsor

This gem was brought to Windsor by the team behind Mr Mister, so you know the bar’s been set. Stoned Pizza is a casual pizza joint and bar with a menu that has something for everyone. Like all good things,  the menu is simple and the drinks are bang on. There’s an endless list of craft beer and a cocktail list that’s sure to raise brows. Try the Apple Pie cocktail and tell us it’s not the best beverage to ever touch your lips. There’s some sweet deals on the table too, Wednesday means $12 pizzas and Friday means free (yep, you heard us) pizza if you stroll in at the right time. Super simple and super tasty. You need to check it out ASAP.

20Pulses-Prahran

20 Pulses is the first Electro Muscular Stimulation (EMS) studio in Melbourne. 20 minutes equals four hours at the gym. Yep. You read correctly. That means one session a week will see your Summer bod within easy reach. Engaging 99% of your muscles, to give you an all round workout that’s probably a better option than a cheeky beer on your lunch break. It works. Whether you want to pack on some lean muscle, rip up or hit the d/floor without having to catch your breath every few minutes – get on board the 20 Pulses train. If it’s good enough for Usain Bolt, it’s good enough for you.

Hideaway-coffee

If you’re wandering southside to the Chapel Precinct and you’re deathly in a need of a good coffee, you’ll probably want to stop into Hideaway. Located in the deadly cool little strip on High Street, the space previously known as Urban Jungle Cafe, is a trendy cafe serving all the classics. Great coffee, egg and bacon rolls and tasty bagels. Only now there’s a new star on the menu, Hideaways Gourmet Burgers. Must-tries include the classic Hideaway and the Fried Chicken. Oh, and The Vegan may well be the best herbivore patty we’ve ever tasted.

188 High Street, Prahran | @hideawaycafebar

If the pizza game on Chapel Street wasn’t already fierce enough, Bella’s Pizza and Pasta have just upped the ante. Expect all the usual suspects – deluxe pizzas, huge servings of pasta and hamburgers with the lot. Grab a small pizza and a drink for just 10 buckaroonies! You really can’t go wrong.

176-180 Commercial Road, Prahran

Ohayo Sushi Bar
Ohayo-sushi-bar-south-yarra

Moving in where Empire Steak once held residence, the big yellow door remains but the steak sangas have said ‘adios!’ Sushi is an obvious feature on the menu, but the $20 Ohayo Combo is a well received surprise! Ohayo Sushi is sure to be Chapel’s new favourite duck-in lunch spot – grab a sushi pack, noodle soup or ‘meal on rice’, chow it down and you’re good to go.
