My Mum sent me a text. “I don’t think we’ll do Kris Kringle for Christmas this year. Why don’t you just buy yourself something nice?”
Well, only if I have to…
So I made my own wish list (if only I still believed in Santa) … and headed to Chapel Street to buy myself the perfect Kris Kringle gift(s).
My go-to indulgence is always a massage. An hour of having my body and mind soothed is my idea of heaven so Norbu Urban Retreat within the Olsen Hotel is perfect. I prefer an intense Deep Tissue or Remedial massage, but if you like something a little gentler, try their hot stone massage. Bliss. If you’re relaxed and happy, a crazy family Christmas is so much more bearable. Add a facial or full body treatment and go all out. You deserve it.

You know those people who put an outfit together and it screams perfection? Pretty sure they shop here. Diida has beautiful, soft flowing dresses along with playsuits, dramatic mini dresses and tops to add to your current wardrobe. You’ll wander in, try on a few things, chat to the gorgeous, friendly staff – and then bam, you’ll want (no, you need), to buy everything. Their designs are perfect for long lunches, wine filled dinners and of course, endless Christmas parties. Maybe a classic black dress or try floral prints or chunks of colour to really stand out on New Year’s Eve. Oh, and jewellery to complete your perfect look.

I am definitely a bag lady. In a good way. I have a collection of handbags and totes but I needed something new for Summer. I found Marimekko, a light filled, spacious shop with dresses and smocks hanging from swinging racks, patterned bowls and ceramics … and of course bags. Marimekko have a diverse range of bags – either plain or brightly coloured fabrics. They’re Finnish so they know about good design. There are cute coin purses and wallets (great for gifts) plus functional yet funky backpacks and unique shoulder bags. I bought three. I might regift one, but I doubt it.

With a super busy festive season, you want to look and feel your best, and that includes hands, nails and feet. Also, a little down time while you have a manicure and pedicure will ensure you don’t get stressed if your To Do List is longer than your arm (at the end of your perfectly groomed hands). Also, how good is a hand massage? Let the professional team at Organique look after you. They also do eyelash extensions, so you’ll never look tired, no matter how many late nights you have.

I’m sure Mum didn’t expect me to wander into an inspiring space like Daqua and buy a couch, but she said get something nice, right? Daqua is filled with gorgeous art deco furniture and unique furnishings which will make you want to throw out everything in your house and start again. For special gifts they also have beautifully designed cushions, glassware, art and candles. If you need a little bit of luxury and sparkle in your life, head here. The staff alone will make you feel like you’re living a glamorous life.

Sometimes you’ve just gotta try something a little different. So next time you’re heading to Chapel Street, why not explore a little further and take a stroll down to Forrest Hill Precinct?
The unassuming entrance to this space will leave you delighted once you step inside and discover a beautifully transformed, open plan warehouse. A blank canvas that can be adapted to suit your posse’s needs.
Launching Saturday, 15 March, Italian bar and restaurant, Tipico will be offering a European-style boozy lunch every Saturday and Sunday for two hours from 15 March to 7 April 2019.
A diverse array of friendly new neighbours have joined the Chapel Street quarters these last few months. From fitness, fashion, art, health, wealth and of course food & drink, these newcomers
