Deep Fried, delicious and serving one hell of a calorie punch. Doughnuts in all of their sugary glory have swooped into Chapel Street with fury and with them comes extra spin sessions to retain at least a little self-worth.
With such selection on offer, how does one choose? Introducing the Chapel Street battle of the doughnuts!
The Heavy Weights
In the Windsor corner, the mighty pun wielding, good time peddling Doughnut Time. Light dough, pumped with colour and covered in candy the addiction to Slim Shadys can be real (It’s covered in M&M’s, I know right!). Doughnut Time’s sharp right hook is the vegan doughnut selection, a perfectly timed Liam Hemsworthy will be enough to have competitors seeing stars.
In the High Street corner is the Melbourne Doughnut Prince. Bistro Morgan is a heavy hitter in the battle of the doughnuts. At just 16 years old, Morgan is smashing out doughnut hits in quick succession. First it was signature syringe doughnuts, then legendary doughnut & ice cream sandwiches and now? Doughnut Jaffles. Daffles. With tater tots. K.O.
In the South Yarra corner is the juggernaut of patisserie, Zumbo. Zumbo is a literal sweet wonderland. But it’s the doughnut cones & zonuts that give Zumbo a place in this fight. You know the cones. Doughnut cones filled with soft serve or the zonuts. Croissants, but fried like a doughnut. Ohhhh mama. The lemon meringue zonut is Zumbo’s right jab and damn it packs some heat!
The Up and Comers
Sweat Freaks in the Prahran corner is new to the doughnut game, but the goods are real. Solid doughnuts, gelato and if you ask nicely they’ll pair the two into a kiss-ass doughnut sandwich.
Right across the ring & also in the Prahran corner is Donutopia. A big name call from the latest doughnut arrival on Chapel Street who also boast the best shake in Melbourne.
