AFL-CHAPELSTREET-GRAND-FINAL
Ahhh September you beautiful month… Spring is here, Summer is on its way and it’s AFL Finals time! While there’s nothing like being in the thick of it at the G, let’s be realistic. You’d probably have to sell your first born for a ticket, miss half the game while lining up for a drink, sell your second born for a pie and some chips and then legit freeze your butt off when that arctic MCG wind sets in. Forget all that, head to Chapel – where with all the festivities, the real winner is… you.
The Temperance Hotel

Already one of the best sports bars on Chapel, they’re bringing an A Game for AFL Finals. There’s screens galore and they tell me they’re even dusting off the projector for the big game. Now, feast your eyes on these specials – Thursday $10 cocktails, Friday from 4pm – $4 Pints, but get there early because they go up a dollar per hour until 8pm (Which is kinda good – you know what time it is by the price of your drink – handy…) Then on the big day, $7 pints siren to siren.

TGI Fridays

If more screens than Village Jam Factory next door wasn’t enough to get you interested, (15 for those of you playing at home) – how about endless wings during the match for $25? WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE. Throw in cheap Coors buckets, a happy hour that starts at 4pm,  2 cocktails for $15, and $6.50 wine and spirits, TGI Fridays almost has a path straight to the GF.

The Emerson

If you were to ask me, ‘What’s the only thing you could add to make The Emerson even better?’ I’d say footy. Looks like my prayers have been answered. Every game of the AFL Finals will be live and they’re ramping it up for Grand Final Day. Not only will there be extra screens in general, BUT book a booth – and get your own screen. No need to move!!  Get a crew together, jump on board their 3 hr beverage and food package for groups of 10 or 20.  If you’re a Nigel no mates, don’t worry – there are single tickets too.

Bars for Sunday Sessions
Katuk

If Dusty Martin was a grand final food and beverage package, he’d be served up at Katuk on grand final day! $85 for 5 hours of beer, wine and basic spirits (which will also leave you dusty the next day, coincidentally) Then there’s the food… Burgers from 12pm til bounce down, then halftime sausage rolls and beef pies (home made and gourmet – they’re not whipping out the Savings brand) not to mention the early bird special, buy 10 tickets and get one free. That’s enough to raise a cup right there.

Bridie O’Reilly’s

I’ve never had a bad time at Bridie O’Reillys. Fact. And it looks like that record will be staying in tact this Finals Series. They’re cranking up the massive megatron screen in the beer garden and hosting an 11am bounce down breakky! There’ll even be a free sausage sizzle at halftime (while all those suckers pay for it at Bunnings).

The Union Hotel

More consistent than Patty Dangerfield for a great spot to watch any major sporting event, The Union Hotel is going next level over the next four weeks.  More screens for the Grand Final and a top 4 food and drinks package. Plus, with a couple of Thursday night games scheduled, their legendary 4 night a week dinner specials will come into play big time!

The Wolf and I, Windsor

Some of us love being at the G, amongst 100,000 people.  Others prefer sitting on the couch with their besties. If you’re looking for more of an intimate spot to get involved, Wolf and I will make you feel like you haven’t even left your lounge room. Although on Grand Final Day, it may be harder to get in than the G itself. Why? Glad you asked… They’re doing free pots from first bounce til first points scored. Yep, you read that correctly… This is not a drill. Free. Pots. Soak it in.

The Silverlake Social

Usually reserved for American Sports – The Silverlake Social are Aussie’ing it up! Free cork hats and vegemite for erryone! Nah, just kidding – but they are switching their screens to our beautiful game for every game of the finals series, and what’s better than Happy Hour? TWO Happy Hours! First one 12pm til 2pm to get you warmed up, and the second one 5 til 7pm – celebratory if your team wins, great to drown your sorrows if they lose. They always say footy is a game of two halves.

The Railway Hotel

While the 24 hour Bottle-o attached to the side of the place is a pretty good drawcard, the big screens and footy style food will be the sweeteners. By the way – did somebody say drink specials? Their ‘Footy Finals’ ‘Happy Hours’ have been extended to reflect the draw. That means Thursday – Friday – Saturday – Sunday between 4pm and 9pm  you’ll score $5 schooners and $6 house wines, that’ll take you deep into September.

Spectrum on Chapel

This is as much of a smokey as Jason Johannissen was to win the Norm Smith last year, and we all know how that turned out.

Four big screens, newly renovated, the fact Leanne tells me they’ve got the cheapest beers on Chapel. Now, in the three minutes I’d known Leanne, she’d never lied to me once (that I know of). With all that in mind, Spectrum on Chapel could be the 2016 Bulldogs of venues to watch the AFL Finals this year. #fairytale.
