We couldn’t be happier that love won & we can say that we live in a country where you can marry the person that you love – regardless of gender. We’re excited for Queens in big white dresses, ladies in suits and two tiny men statues standing on the top of a cake. Throw a couple of confetti cannons in the mix and we’ll be on top of the damn world. Or you could go the simple route and get married in a beautiful venue, with no fuss, surrounded by people who love you.

Now, that the vote is in, and the politicians have gotten around to actually doing their jobs, we’re going to need somewhere to host these fabulous festivities – and where else would suffice, but Chapel Street?

Here is an excellent, though not complete list of event spaces that would perfectly suit a perfectly gay wedding. There’s only one catch – we want and invite 😉

Gay Wedding on Chapel Street

Sitting pretty at the very top of the Cullen Hotel in Prahran is a rooftop event space that is screaming out for a pound of glitter and a Kylie soundtrack. The views stretch across Port Phillip Bay and the CBD, catering and drinks can all be organised in house and you’ll even get a dedicated events coordinator to help piece the day together. The guest list will have to be selective, but it’ll be worth it. Besides, with rooms on site to house the crowds, the after party will be epic.

The Emerson
Bars for Sunday Sessions

Picture this. The sun’s setting on a warm summer’s evening. You’re sitting on The Emerson Rooftop, champagne in hand, when the Brides enter to the sweet, sweet sound of Sam Smith. The space is gently lit and waiters are walking the perimeter with tiny little pieces of yum. You don’t quite know what they’re handing out, but they taste good, so you eat three. You can see the city lights starting to appear in the distance and hear the slight humm of Commercial Road below. Everyone is a little tipsy, but filled with love. It’s perfect.

Gay Wedding on Chapel Street

The Bromley Ballroom could quite possibly be Chapel Street’s best kept secret. Often admired by passers by, but little do they know, what’s inside is so much better than the exterior. This treasure is David Bromley’s art studio. Part gallery, part event space. Any wedding reception here would be shrouded in magic, intrigue and just the right amount of queerspiration.

Oscar Cooper

Ridiculously stylish cafe by day, drop dead gorgeous space by night. Oscar Cooper on Greville Street is both whimsical and romantic. It’ll cater to our favourite Fashionista Gays who dress all in black and would never touch anything with processed carbs. Obviously the catering would be perfection, and the location? Sublime. It’s just a short stroll to your favourite night time dwellings for post reception shenanigans.

Gay Wedding on Chapel Street

You’ll know Lucky Penny by their drop dead delicious coffee – but if you wander upstairs you’ll find the Goldilocks of function spaces for a small, intimate and beautiful wedding reception. Victorian architecture, high ceilings, wide arch windows and light timber floors provide the most wondrous room setup. Add theming to suit his & his personalities, and it’s all sorted. PLUS the Lucky Penny team know their stuff. From planning, to catering and waiting – the result is always precision execution with food that’ll blow your mind.
