We recruited AFL Legend and Brownlow Medallist, Dane Swan, as our official ambassador to educate Melburnians on supporting small businesses during COVID-19.
Dane Swan shared daily videos, keeping us updated on local restaurants offering takeaway or delivery, retailers who have shifted to online sales and home delivery, gyms and health clubs offering online workouts and many more unique offerings. To follow Dane’s advice follow Chapel Street or Dane on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter.
“Get yourself some footy boots, activewear and a can-do attitude. These guys will bend over backward to ensure you’re kitted out with all the essentials so you can work out from home.” – Dane Swan
“Chapel Street is my stomping ground and I’ve found all the small businesses around here are run by good, hard-working Australians – and many of them I count as friends,” said Dane Swan. “I’m just like any loyal Melburnian, when your mates are in a crisis, you do whatever you can.”
“For example: A simple and very effective way to support our local restaurants is to order directly rather than using home delivery. This ensures all the money goes to the business so it can stay afloat and keep staff employed. And a pro tip from me – pick it up yourself while also walking your dog. It’s a great excuse to leave your house for some essential exercise and helps you fight off the blues associated with cabin fever. My dog Barney loves it when we pick up Vietnamese from Hanoi Hannah – we’re always there!”

“Try the spank-a-pita or the spanakopita, listen I don’t know how to say it, but you don’t need to, you just need to look at it, order it and eat it. ” – Dane Swan
“Sam & Ko have looked after me for at least 15 or 16 years now.” – Dane Swan
“After a big night in isolation, you don’t wanna hit the deck, start licking the floor and get some bad chemicals.” – Dane Swan
“One of my favourite Vietnamese eateries is Hanoi Hannah – I love to order online and pickup. What’s even better is they’re also offering essentials where you can replicate their meals by cooking them yourself at home.” – Dane Swan
“We still need to be able to enjoy ourselves with a drink and some good music. Lucky for us Railway Hotel and Liquid HQ are still delivering alcohol. Be rude not to listen to a live DJ set from One Six One, there’s your Saturday night sorted. Cheers!” – Dane Swan
“Remember that your little friend(s) is feeling the stress of lockdown too. I love spoiling my best mate Barney and Petbarn South Yarra has everything he needs.” – Dane Swan
“The Wolf & I actually do $15 Parma, Chips and Salad pick-up or delivery, now that’s a bargain in my books.” – Dane Swan
“I’ve just found out that F45 Prahran are actually streaming classes on their Instagram and Facebook. I’m gonna get involved and do a couple of classes with them.” – Dane Swan
“I’ve just eaten my 7th litre of Pidapipo Windsor gelato, it’s absolutely magnificent and the best news about it is that they deliver.” – Dane Swan
“If you’re like me and looking to impress whoever you may live with in isolation, jump online, support local businesses and get a fresh new kit.” – Dane Swan
“Support local businesses just like I do, down at the Prahran Market.” – Dane Swan
