PMI Victorian History Library

Step inside a library where Victoria’s stories are waiting to be found.

The PMI Victorian History Library has been part of Melbourne’s cultural life since 1854. Community-owned and run, we’re a welcoming place for anyone curious about the people, places and events that shaped Victoria.

Browse more than 70,000 books and resources, including thousands you won’t find available to borrow anywhere else. Trace the history of your suburb, research a family story, dive into a favourite era, or simply lose an afternoon among fascinating shelves.

There’s always something happening, too. Join us for talks, seminars, book sales, our pop-up bookshop and book club. Our events cover history, books, ideas and the unexpected.
