As the Spring Racing Season and Spring/Summer collections are coming at us quicker than new Netflix series’, it felt like time to shout myself a new dress but had that niggling self- guilt at the back of my mind about forking out all of the cash for something that I know will make limited appearances.

I tend to invest in staple pieces rather than statement pieces so I wanted to find a way to maximise my cost per wear out of a dress I had literally been drooling over (ok, not literally, that would be gross). The dress I’ve been lusting over is the ‘Siena Dress’, part of the latest SS17 drop at Aje. It’s so beautiful it brings a tear to the eye. A backless gown with a subtle split, made in a hand painted print of silk linen gauze, it’s heaven in a dress and I had to have it.

As every good shopper knows, the best way to cure a case of consumer guilt is by justification and I am an absolute pro in this department. Thankfully for those of you playing at home, I’ve found the perfect loophole for you to do the same. With any gown purchase, your good friend telling you ‘you could always get it hemmed shorter and dyed black so you can wear it later’ is never going to cut it. Their good intentions will always be appreciated, however we all know you’re never going to re-hem that bad boy. Instead, I have your answer. Wait for it….

Buy a jumper.

I know! Ground breaking!

If you’ve been anywhere near Pintrest in the last two years, you’ll have seen your fave fashionista flaunting this trend because they too discovered this vortex of validation. Of course, you have to make sure the cut of the dress compliments the jumper, but once you find the right combo, you’ll never look back. Pair it with your comfiest kicks and you’ll be rocking that new frock to Sunday brunch like nobody’s business.
