A whole month of ra-mazingness starts now. During Tokyo’s Tina’s first ever June festival of ramen there will be a rotating line-up of brothy bowls to experience, a noodle eating comp for the gluttonous, and flights to Japan up for grabs!
Will the ra-menu include New Hokkaido Ramen; a seafood broth bursting with with soft shell crab and charred corn? Or Ash Ramen; a tonkotsu and black sesame broth, bathing roast pork belly and poached egg? It’s all a bit of a surprise for now. But we do know that the first ramen of the week is the Akayu style. Legend has it that the local people of Akayu Yamagata (now dubbed Nan’yo) could “breathe fire like the Dragon of Shanghai” after eating this dish. Must be the orb of blended savoury miso, fiery chilli, and pungent garlic that slowly dissolves into the otherwise mild soup. Diners who try the ramen of the week have the chance to win return flights to Tokyo plus a list of hot-spots the Tokyo Tina team have personally handpicked from their travels.
On Sunday July 3 at 4pm, ten brave – and hungry – diners can enter Tokyo Tina’s ‘Slurp’ ramen eating competition hosted by Yan the drag queen. They’ll be vying to dine at Saigon Sally, Hanoi Hannah AND Tokyo Tina for nix (once they’ve recovered). To enter the comp follow @tokyotina_ on Instagram, like their post about the competition in the week beforehand AND email email@example.com with your interest.
