The annual Record Store Day celebrates independent record stores in this post-Brashes era. Here’s what’s happening locally this Saturday April 16th in Melbourne.
As the new kid on the block (never fear, it’s highly unlikely N.K.O.T.B. will get a spin), this will be Union Heights‘ first ever Record Store Day. To celebrate they’ll have some of Melbourne’s finest DJs in residence including Discourse (Crate Cartel), Heata (HG), Wallzee One and host of PBS FM’s “Hippopotamus Rex” hip hop show Ronin spinning hip hop, soul and funk all day long.
They’ll also have exclusive RSD releases including titles from Flu, Plutonic Lab, Hilltop Hoods, K21 and Trials.
136 Chapel Street, Windsor
It’s pretty much business as usual at Obese Records this RSD. Except they have a fat 40% off storewide (excluding paint/markers)!
221 Commercial Road, South Yarra
Bounce Audio reckon they have the most house and techno titles in Melbourne! You’d better go see them to test the theory. They will be cracking open the beer and have music playing all day. Specials on Ortofon carts and needles, Shure carts and needles, AIAIAI headphones, Sennheiser headphones and Reloop turnables, cartridges and needles, AVE powered monitor speakers are also on offer.
37 Cato Street, Prahran
All. Day. Bowie. We needn’t say more but we will; the iconic Greville Records is honouring the late superstar David Bowie all day for RSD and have recruited some of the store’s most loyal friends to come in and play tribute to the Thin White Duke live throughout the day.
Sounds from The Closet Straights, Sugarcanes, Dan Kelly, Ash Naylor, Tim Rogers and Mick Harvey will start at 3pm. Discounts on selected DVDs, CDs and LPs plus limited edition vinyl will be available.
