Ladro owners Ingrid and Sean serve up more than peasant food pizza plus unexpectedly fine service at their Italian restaurant. In addition to your classic Margherita or more adventurous ‘J-Lo’ (tomato, bufala, speck, chilli, basil) order you might get a side dish of good karma while surrounded by happy Italian families who know a good thing when they taste it.
With an eye towards the earth and sustainability, Ladro is home to 60,000 busy bees who provide honey for their desserts and the Melbourne Rooftop Bee Project. They’ve also just installed a bio-composter so 100% of the eatery’s organic waste goes to good use and wine and mineral water is served via a bottle-less system.
In caring for all creatures great and small, Ladro reduces their BYO to a bargain $5 on Monday nights with the corkage fee going towards Prahran Mission’s Christmas Lunch. They only use free range meat in their recipes and gluten free pizzas are available for those with sensitive bellies.
Suddenly Ladro’s signature Italian-style local porchetta, spotted spit-roasting out front on Greville Street, seems all the more tempting.
