CHAPEL STREET CAMPAIGN BRINGS MUCH-NEEDED LAUGHTER AND JOY FOLLOWING MELBOURNE’S CRAPPY YEAR

After enduring the world’s longest lockdown, Melbourne’s top comedians, led by Kate Langbroek, have told their favourite Christmas Cracker jokes in a joyful promotion for Chapel Street Precinct. The campaign’s aim is to help people forget the crappy year they’ve endured and to lift spirits as they countdown to Christmas – all while driving home the message of supporting local businesses.

In the campaign videos, the much loved Kate Langbroek takes to Chapel Street Precinct as ‘ Mrs Claus’ and shares 25 original Christmas Cracker jokes with local business owners and visitors to the iconic location. The videos will be released across Chapel Street Precinct’s multiple digital platforms every day starting from December 1, right up until Christmas Day.

“Here is a lovely and timely reminder that Christmas joy is looming,” said Kate Langbroek. “Thankfully, Mrs Claus has kept her sense of humour (despite the tough year we’ve had) and was delighted to share the gift of laughter and fellowship to support our local vibrant and precious strip. Retail and hospitality is apparently pretty abysmal in the North Pole, so she made the most of her time on Chapel Street and the traders and shoppers showered her in yuletide joy. Merry Christmas, friends. Let the festivities begin!”

There’s nothing more Christmassy than pulling a cracker and sharing a cheesy joke with your friends and family. A cracking list of local Melbourne comedians has been lined up to create a sack brimming with original Christmas jokes. The line-up includes; Cal Wilson, Alex Ward, Concetta Caristo, Oliver Coleman, Vidya Rajan, Jordan Barr, Ben Kochan, Lloyd Langford, Lewis Garnham and Dave ‘Hughesy’ Hughes.

“Last summer was one of Chapel Street Precinct’s best in ten years – and we’re hoping this year is just as good as the last – but this will only happen with the support of our community,” said Chapel Street Precinct Association (CSPA) President, Mr Justin O’Donnell. “Christmas is the busiest shopping period of the year and it’s also the best time to buy from your favourite local businesses. Now more than ever, they need your support to climb out of COVID debt”

“This year has been tough for the Chapel Street Precinct community, especially our local businesses who have now endured the longest lockdown in the world. It’s time for joy and for our businesses to feel optimistic about the future,” said Ms Chrissie Maus, CSPA General Manager. Online shopping has its place, however, I for one am glad I can get back into the shops and shop in real life again. I’m sure everyone will agree Christmas has always been about the physical shopping experience and no one does that better than the colourful Chapel Street.”
